Mia e Aiden hanno da poco perso la madre. Vivono col padre Richard, che vorrebbe far loro conoscere meglio la nuova fidanzata Grace. Per Natale Richard organizza una vacanza in montagna, ma viene richiamato in città da un impegno: Mia, Aiden e Grace si ritrovano circondati dalla neve in una casa carica di misteri.
La coppia di registi di Goodnight Mommy torna a indagare il rapporto tra follia e orrore nello spazio astratto di un’abitazione. The Lodge riprende i temi del primo film, in un contesto più realistico e con una trama più chiara, abbracciando il genere. Ma proprio nell'uso del genere horror, essenziale nella prima parte, eccessivo nella seconda, i registi falliscono in parte il loro primo film oltreoceano, abili nell'acquisire una maestria tecnica solida, ma incapaci di rinunciare all'idea di essere anche, e ancora, degli autori.
