"Without You" — number one for Harry Nilsson in 1972. A global hit again for Mariah Carey in 1994. Covered by over 180 artists.

It was written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger — the Welsh band signed to The Beatles' Apple Records.

Paul McCartney gave them their first hit. They played on Imagine. They backed George Harrison.

Pete Ham died in 1975 with almost nothing.
Tom Evans died in 1983 — after an argument about the royalties from the very song they wrote.

The song made millions. Its writers never saw the money.
