Ringo Starr refused to sing the original opening lyric to “With a Little Help from My Friends” because he worried Beatles fans might actually throw tomatoes at him.

The final note created another problem. It sat unusually high in Ringo’s range, so John Lennon and Paul McCartney stood beside him and encouraged him through repeated attempts. A song about relying on friends was completed with a little help from his friends.
