Before the Beatles released “Let It Be,” Aretha Franklin had already put out her own version.

The song began with a dream Paul McCartney had about his late mother, Mary. It was then rehearsed during the White Album sessions before taking one more surprising turn: Aretha Franklin released it before the Beatles did.
