In 1984, Tina Turner made one of the greatest comebacks in music history.

On September 1, What’s Love Got to Do with It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — her first and only solo U.S. chart-topper.

The success of Private Dancer revived her career and turned Tina Turner into one of the defining stars of the 1980s.
