Paul McCartney began writing this breakup song during a 1966 skiing holiday with Jane Asher, more than two years before their relationship actually ended.

The recording was nearly as unusual. John Lennon and George Harrison didn’t participate, leaving Paul, Ringo Starr and French-horn player Alan Civil to create the finished track.

The song was “For No One” from Revolver.
