Ringo Starr coined the phrase "a hard day's night" as one of his accidental malapropisms. Once it became the title of the Beatles' 1964 film, Lennon wrote the song to order and brought it in the next morning. It was recorded at EMI in nine takes on 16 April 1964. Accounts differ on whether director Richard Lester or the band themselves picked the title.
